AUGUST

On the 19th of August, I finally touched down in Hilo!

The flight was so smooth, praise God! The view from above was absolutely stunning as shown in photo #1.

Fun fact: The Big Island (Hilo) is made up of 5 major volcanoes:

  • Kilauea, Mauna Loa, Mauna Kea, Hualalai and Kohala. Mauna Loa is the largest active volcano on Earth.

Photo #2 is what it looked like when the plane landed. It reminded me of Baguio, Philippines. Hilo is a very rainy place.

What I Do

Other than assisting teachers, on Friday's I am in charge of art class for K1, but throughout the week I teach music class from grades K1-8th grade. Depending on the day, I teach ukulele but I am still figuring out what to do for each class. Teaching music was not as easy as it seemed to be. On my first day of teaching K1, I had no idea how to get the kids to listen to me. There was a lot of squirming around and talking among each other. It was very stressful for me because I was excited to teach but with the situation, it did not seem like I would be a good teacher. I had to remind myself that it was only my first day, and I prayed to God to please give me the courage, strength, and patience.

More Green & Blue!!!

We met these lovely ladies one rainy afternoon at the beach. They came for a girls' trip to Hawaii, and it was so fun getting to know them! They are members of Latter-day Saints, and they accepted our invitation to church on Sabbath August 29. Praise God! They were able to learn about Adventism and we were able to learn about their religion as well. I pray that they were blessed because we were blessed by their friendship.

New Friends!

August In Summary

This month flew by so fast. I cannot believe I am already one month in. Spending time with the kids brings me joy. This month has brought me so much. Every day I am counting my blessings. No matter how exhausted I am from a long day, I remember that I am more than just a task force worker. I am a MISSIONARY, passionate with the calling that God has planned for me. Ever since I got here, every day has been an adventure. I pray that my heart continues to grow in Christ and that the people I meet that do not know God, can know how great God is.

I cannot wait to share more with you all!
